“This is why alchemy exists,” the boy said. “So that everyone will search for his treasure, find it, and then want to be better than he was in his former life. Lead will play its role until the world has no further need for lead; and then lead will have to turn itself into gold.
That’s what alchemists do. They show that, when we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.” ~ Paulo Coelho, The alchemist.
The word Alchemy, from the Aramaic means “working within and through the dense darkness inside”. I think this is interesting as that is what we are all doing most of the time. Understanding why we are feeling a certain way and trying to figure out how we can leave that feeling behind us. We even sometimes sense it around other people in our lives, even if we don’t know them that well. They are like a dark cloud as other people seem to lift you up just by being in their presence. Personally I love the word Alchemy it gives me a feeling of something magical is going to happen. In a sense this is true of course, we are able to go thru the dark and come out at the light.
All this has nothing to do with how we look, present ourselves to the outside world. It has everything to do with the personality inside us, this part wants to make sure the sunshines and ensure that every one around us is having a good day. To be able to do this we have to be able to clean up our psychic environment we live in. This will help us to transform our own energy and shows ourselves and every one around us our true beauty. As human beings we have ego’s and the nature of the ego is to feel separate from others. The experience of feeling separate from others creates a host of emotions: anger, fear, jealousy, despair, violence, hate. We tend to compare ourselves to others and these feelings truly attack our self-worth. It gives us a feeling that we’re being judged and on a really bad day we feel less then “them”. Even if you can’t really say who “them” are. All this are triggers for us to protect ourselves and we end up in a feeling of fight or flight. Just to share some triggers I’m talking about are:
My family treats me like a child,
I’m so angry about the way this country is headed,
I feel so sad for all those people who lost their homes and loved ones in the earthquake,
My coworker’s behavior just grates on my nerves.
These triggers will bring you into a reaction mode and when this happens a lot in your life it will wear you out. Instead of thriving, we often feel as if we’re just surviving. For the feeling that we have to protect ourselves we have to pay a heavy price. If you recognize these feelings, I can reassure you, you’re not alone. We are a big group and I for one really have been looking for a way to change these feelings. It made me think about the technique the Japanese Ninja’s use in their combat. Use the energy that is there and build on it. Use the power in your own advantage. This way you’ll grow and change negatives into positives with the same impact. By doing this Alchemy work of your soul. It is a way of finding depth and richness in your life and with your interactions with others. It is a way to change living in a superficial way to a living with more depth and beauty. For you and every one in your life!
Every day take a moment to really breath into your abdomen. To truly feel it place your hands on you tummy and feel your hands going up and down. Feel what it does with your heart beat, the way your body is reacting to this real connection you’re making with your body. Notice how you are starting to relax and what your body it telling you. Are you feeling tired? Do feel thirsty or hungry? Have you taken the time to really take care of yourself and nurture your body?
Now you’re feeling more relaxed and connected with yourself take a moment to connect with your mind. Are you feeling at peace and able to look at your day from a distance? When you are to answer this with a yes, take you time to have a look at the interaction you have had today. Have you been able to stay in your own power? Where there moments that you just reacted to the situation? Make sure that you don’t judge yourself. We’re just looking at what is going on and how we can nurture ourselves better. Where we need to support ourselves.
After you have the feeling that you have a clear understanding of what is going on during your own day, take your time to write it down. It takes time to see a patterns in our own lives and to make a start to change it, but here come the power of intention. When we set an intention, we set in motion the wheels of change in our lives. When we set an intention, action naturally follows.
